The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class [then Private] Horace A. Colacchio (ASN: 35919640), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 119th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 23 November 1944, in Germany. During an assault by his company, enemy fire was received and several casualties were suffered. Two of the wounded men were lying in an open field and unable to aid themselves. Private First Class Colacchio, crawling part of the way due to the heavy enemy fire, succeeded in crossing one hundred and fifty yards of exposed terrain to the wounded men. He immediately rendered first aid and then dragged them to the partial protection of a shell crater. When the enemy fire subsided Private First Class Colacchio called for additional medical aid men and personally supervised the evacuation of the two wounded men. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Private First Class Colacchio, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
