Department of the Air Force, United States Central Air Forces, Special Order GA-008 (April 26, 1991)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant Eric Carl Dodson, United States Air Force, for gallantry in connection with military operations against the forces of the Republic of Iraq in south central Iraq, while serving as Pilot of an F-16 Fighter Airplane in support of Operation DESERT STORM, on 17 February 1991. On that date, Captain Dodson destroyed one bridge and significantly damaged another on the Euphrates River near the city of Alkufah, severely degrading enemy supply lines. On eggressing the target area he initiated and coordinated search and rescue efforts deep behind enemy lines for his flight lead who had catastrophic engine failure and was forced to eject. With complete disregard for his own personal safety while facing deteriorating weather conditions and repeated engagements by enemy SA-8 missile acquisition and anti-aircraft artillery radars, he patrolled alternate base. His professionalism and disciplined airmanship were key in the successful rescue of his flight lead. By his gallantry and devotion to duty, First Lieutenant Dodson has reflected great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Air Force.
