The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Roscoe R. Clay (ASN: 39278474), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company G, *** Infantry Regiment, 95th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 1 April 1945, in the vicinity of Lamershagen, Germany. When a task force of tanks and Company G was halted by devastating Panzerfaust fire, Private First Class Clay and five comrades went to reconnoiter and, if possible eliminate the panzerfausts. Coming upon the enemy on high ground, Private First Class Clay participated in a bold assault which destroyed the position and enabled the tanks to resume their advance. Seven Germans were killed by Private First Class Clay and his comrades, and fourteen bazookas were captured. The gallant combat skill displayed by Private First Class Clay is in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service.
