The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technical Sergeant Michael Francis Cirullo (ASN: 31128566), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 117th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 2 October 1944, in Germany. When his company had been pinned down by enemy fire during an assault upon a sector of the Siegfried Line, Technical Sergeant Cirullo risked his life to move his mortar section into a position from which they delivered deadly fire upon the enemy guns, enabling his company to make a frontal assault and capture six enemy pillboxes. The courage, determination, and fighting spirit displayed by Technical Sergeant Cirullo reflect great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Armed Forces.
