The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Sergeant Frank J. Chunderlik, Jr. (ASN: 33153810), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 119th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 26 March 1945, in Germany. First Sergeant Chunderlik dashed one hundred yards through artillery and rifle fire to a burning building housing an enemy position which had pinned down friendly troops. Upon First Sergeant Chunderlik’s demand to surrender, the enemy threw down their arms. The great heroism displayed by First Sergeant Chunderlik prevented casualties being inflicted on his comrades. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by First Sergeant Chunderlik, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
