The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Captain (Infantry) Ralph Leonard Christy (ASN: 0-1304025), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy from 23 March 1945 to 25 March 1945, in Germany. Although he had been exposed to intense enemy shelling for several days, Captain Christy voluntarily set out on a supply mission and travelled along a heavily shelled route. Due to traffic congested roads he drove along the shoulders, fully award of the danger from enemy land mines. However, he elected to continue in his mission until his vehicle exploded a mine and he was mortally wounded. Captain Christy’s gallant actions will remain a lasting inspiration to all who served with him. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Captain Christy, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
