The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry), [then Second Lieutenant] Paul P. Christy (ASN: 0-2041087), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 16 November 1944, in German y. Realizing the extreme danger automatic weapons two other men who had preceded him had been wounded, First Lieutenant Christy moved through an area where machine gun bullets were kicking up the ground around him to go to a position where he could observe for mortar fire. With the welfare of the riflemen the uppermost thought in his mind, he was moving forward when he was painfully wounded and had to be evacuated. First Lieutenant Christy’s great gallantry and self-sacrifice were a source or inspiration to all who observed him and were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service, reflecting great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
