The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Private Anthony Fiorentino (ASN: 1241719), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company L, 110th Infantry Regiment, 28th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Magneux, France, 25 August 1918. Volunteering to locate an enemy machine-gun nest which was inflicting heavy casualties on our forces, Private Fiorentino advanced alone and by drawing the enemy fire enabled his company to destroy the nest and continue the advance. In exposing himself to the hostile fire, this gallant soldier was fatally wounded and died on the field shortly afterward.
