The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Clifton W. Cashion (ASN: 38670035), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 27 March 1945, in Germany. While advancing against enemy positions, Private First Class Cashion’s company was pinned down by intense enemy small arms fire, temporarily halting the advance. Private First Class Cashion, obtaining a machine gun, fearlessly advanced alone in the face of the enemy fire to a vantage point. He placed accurate and effective fire on a vulnerable point in the enemy’s defense, inflicting casualties and materially reducing the enemy resistance to such an extent as to allow his company to advance and seize the positions. His gallant action at great personal risk reflects great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Armed Forces.
