The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Louis D. Carver (ASN: 34013378), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 117th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 7 July 1944, in France. Staff Sergeant Carver was assigned to duty with the heavy weapons section of an infantry force engaged in an attack against the enemy. A sudden fierce enemy counterthrust overran one of the guns in Staff Sergeant Carver’s section. With utter disregard for his safety, Staff Sergeant Carver proceeded across open terrain to the other gun, and despite painful wounds received in the action, rallied his men to repulse the counterattack and recapture the lost gun position. The fortitude, personal bravery, and superior leadership displayed by Staff Sergeant Carver reflect great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Armed Forces.
