Vernor Guy Henry graduated from the US Military Academy at West Point, Class of May, 1861. He was wounded while serving during the Indian Wars and was one of the key generals of the U.S. Forces during the Spanish-American War and subsequently served at the Military Governor of Puerto Rico until his death to pneumonia in October 1899. His son, Guy Vernor Henry, Jr., graduated from the Academy with the Class of 1898 and rose to the rank of Major General before he retired.

Colonel Henry led the assaults of his brigade upon the enemy’s works, where he had two horses shot under him.
