The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Sergeant Raymond Allen Corlew (ASN: 35528378), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 105th Engineer Combat Battalion, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 11 February 1945, in Luxembourg. During the assault crossing of the Sauer River, Sergeant Corlew and his engineer squad were preparing equipment for their own unit and infantry units. Despite severe enemy fire falling all around him, Sergeant Corlew gallantly rallied his men to complete their vital task. Although he fell mortally wounded, his heroic actions inspired his men to further achievements. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Sergeant Corlew, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
