The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Alfred Cappy (ASN: 35561006), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 119th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 19 December 1944, in Belgium. Sergeant Cappy moved about under murderous enemy fire to direct his men into position to protect the withdrawal of his company from a savage counterattack, He continued to move about under the enemy fire which struck all around him and refused to leave until every man had withdrawn. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Sergeant Cappy, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
