The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sergeant Dougald Ferguson (ASN: 278102), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Machine-Gun Company, 126th Infantry Regiment, 32d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, at Cierges, northeast of Chateau-Thierry, France, 1 August 1918. When the infantry on his right was held up by fire from an enemy machine-gun, Sergeant Ferguson seized a rifle and rushed around the flank of the enemy’s position, bayoneting two of the machine-gun crew and shooting the third, thus enabling the infantry to advance.
