The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant Colonel (Signal Corps), [then Major] Elbert L. Camp (ASN: 0-452508), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Headquarters, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy from 9 February 1945 to 12 February 1945, in Luxembourg. When wire communications to a virtually isolated regiment were repeatedly cut by savage enemy fire, Lieutenant Colonel Camp prepared equipment and personally dragged one end of a cable across a foot bridge over the swollen Sauer River, under heavy enemy fire. He then helped to complete the installation of wire communications to the advance command post of the regiment. So fearless was Lieutenant Colonel Camp in this, his first mission under fire, that by his gallant leadership he inspired his men in the completion of a communications system which the enemy was never able to destroy. The bravery, aggressive determination, and exemplary leadership exhibited by Lieutenant Colonel Camp reflect great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Armed Forces.
