The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Major (Infantry) D’Alary Fechet (ASN: 0-3362), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Vierzy, France, 18 July 1918. Major D’Alary personally led his battalion in the attack, during which he was severely wounded in the neck by a shell fragment. After receiving first aid he rejoined his battalion and remained in command throughout the operation. His energy and personal heroism were material factors in the successful attack made by his battalion on the strongly fortified town of Vierzy.

The singularly distinctive accomplishments of Colonel Fechet and his dedicated contributions in the service of his country reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Army.

    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Colonel (Infantry) D’Alary Fechet (ASN: 0-3362), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with serving as Commanding Officer of the 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in North Africa during the period from January to April 1943. Although seriously wounded, Colonel Fechet personally directed his regiment’s assault on enemy positions. His courage and braver inspired the officers and men of his command and his excellent leadership and tactical judgment resulted in the defeat of enemy forces and the occupation of that sector by his Regiment. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Colonel Fechet, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
