Headquarters, 30th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 152 (June 12, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Thomas J. Burr (ASN: 35806773), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 119th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 11 October 1944, in Germany. Although a disabled tank in which Several wounded men lay was under heavy enemy machine gun, mortar, and artillery fire, Private First Class Burr and three comrades succeeded in extricating their wounded comrades despite being blinded by smoke and in danger of exploding ammunition. Making their way slowly from one protected position to another, Private First Class Burr and his comrades carried the wounded men to a forward aid station. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Private First Class Burr, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
