The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Staff Sergeant Richard Stanford Buracker (ASN: 36229116), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 117th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 13 April 1945, in Germany. Staff Sergeant Buracker was leading one of the assault squads in an attack but, as his platoon was advancing, rifle and machine gun fire was received from the flank temporarily stopping all movement. Staff Sergeant Buracker gallantly exposing himself to go among his men and encourage them, urged them to advance. As he started to lead the men forward he was killed by machine gun fire but the remainder of the squad, inspired by his heroism, continued on and completed their mission. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Staff Sergeant Buracker, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
