Headquarters, 27th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 60 (1944)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Technician Fourth Grade Douglas Brown (ASN: 32017619), United States Army, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving with the 27th Infantry Division in action on Saipan, on 30 June 1944. When a Staff Sergeant of the unit was wounded forward of the front line, Sergeant Brown with complete disregard for his own safety and under heavy enemy fire, rushed to the sergeant and brought him to safety. The afternoon of the same day, under heavy enemy rifle and machine gun fire, he went to the aid of another soldier who was seriously wounded. It was while exposed to this intense fire that he was mortally wounded. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
