Headquarters, 30th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 166 (June 24, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fifth Grade Carl F. Brooks (ASN: 33377688), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 10 April 1945, in Germany. Discovering that no one was in position to fire on a large force of the enemy, Technician Fifth Grade Brooks gallantly exposed himself to a hail of fire to fire on them while a small friendly group deployed and killed or captured twenty-five. He later ran to a platoon of tanks and quickly guided them into a position from which they brought effective fire upon a large number of fleeing enemy. Technician Fifth Grade Brooks, by his great heroism, contributed materially to the success of the attack. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Technician Fifth Grade Brooks, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
