The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technical Sergeant Henry T. Bressman, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 85th Infantry Division on the FIFTH Army front in Italy, during World War II. When his company was pinned down by heavy enemy machine-gun fire from close range, Sergeant Bressman, leader of a machine gun section, advanced and placed his machinegun in a position from which he was about to rout a strong enemy force, thus permitting his unit to advance without further loss of life and resulting in the killing, wounding, or capturing of 32 of the enemy. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
