The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Infantry) Roy C. Breaux (ASN: 0-1283016), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company C, 53d Armored Infantry Battalion, 4th Armored Division, in action against an armed enemy of the United States on 28 July 1944. Captain Breaux, commanding Company C was given the mission of clearing the town of Coutance, France, to enable Combat Command “B” to push on. Captain Breaux personally led his company into the town in the face of extremely heavy enemy mortar, artillery fire and snipers, and with the knowledge that the enemy was well entrenched in the outskirts and all routes thereto were mined. After taking and holding the town that night, during which shelling was heavy and snipers active, Captain Breaux, personally led his men against the enemy at dawn the following morning. Through his superior leadership and drive, the mission was accomplished, and the enemy was routed, making possible the advance of Combat Command “B”. The courage and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Breaux reflect great credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.

The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Bronze Star Medal to Captain (Infantry) Roy C. Breaux (ASN: 0-1283016), United States Army, for meritorious service in connection with military operations against an armed enemy of the United States during the period 15 September to 7 October 1944, France. During this period, while his company occupied a defensive position in the vicinity of Arracourt, France, under extremely trying circumstances, Captain Breaux displayed constant courage and leadership. Day and night patrols constantly harassed the positions, making it extremely difficult for his men to rest. Captain Breaux made frequent visits to the foxholes of all men to determine their needs and bolster their morale. The courage and extreme devotion to duty displayed by Captain Breaux was an inspiration to all troops of his command and reflect great credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.

Breaux (ASN: 0-1283016), United States Army, for gallantry in action against an armed enemy of the United States, while serving with Company C, 53d Armored Infantry Battalion, 4th Armored Division, on 30 July, 1944, in the vicinity of Ponts, France. Company C of the 53rd Armored Infantry Battalion was ordered to go into an assembly area East of the town. Captain Breaux personally led his company against the enemy on the outskirts of the town. Captain Breaux requested a tank platoon to assist in his mission as the ground they were to assemble in was still in enemy hands. Upon arrival of the light tanks, Captain Breaux set up his infantry and directed the operation against known hostile positions. The light tanks with Captain Breaux and his infantry took off to clear the path to the assembly area. This task force successfully cleared the path capturing many prisoners, destroying an enemy motor convoy, and last but not least, securing the Combat Command flank. The courage and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Breaux reflect great credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
