Headquarters, 84th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 11 (January 17, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private Russell O. Bradley (ASN: 13017083), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 325th Field Artillery Battalion, 84th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Germany on 5 December 1944. When a fatally wounded soldier had been pinned down by debris, Private Bradley, without regard for his own welfare, left his position of comparative safety and endeavored to extricate the wounded man. While engaged in this unselfish act, an enemy shell landed in a nearby ammunition pit and Private Bradley was killed by shrapnel from the exploding ammunition. The loyalty, dauntless daring and commendable conduct displayed by Private Bradley exemplify the finest traditions of the military service and reflect the highest credit upon himself.
