Headquarters, 41st Infantry Division, General Orders No. 49 (1944)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant Colonel (Infantry) Horace C. Bradbury, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as Commanding Officer of an Infantry Battalion of the186th Infantry Regiment, 41st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy at Biak Island on 7 June 1944. Assigned a certain dangerous mission, knowing fully the hazards involved, Lieutenant Colonel Bradbury chose to execute it himself although it was necessary to expose himself to enemy fire each time he moved. He made a personal reconnaissance of the entire line to be defended and then returned and smoothly directed his units into position. This unhesitating action enabled his forces to quickly set themselves in an advantageous location, from which they later moved to crush the Japanese frontally opposing them. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Lieutenant Colonel Bradbury, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
