The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Virgil C. Boyle (ASN: 37348148), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the Medical Detachment, 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 27 March 1945, in Germany. Private First Class Boyle voluntarily risked the extreme danger of a hail of artillery and tank fire to care for wounded comrades. After he had treated the casualties and saw to their evacuation, he continued exposing himself to search for any wounded who might have been overlooked. Private First Class Boyle’s gallantry aided greatly in saving the lives of many of his comrades. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Private First Class Boyle, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
