Headquarters, 94th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 107 (1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Woodrow J. Boyett, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 94th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Germany, from 6 March 1945 to 7 March 1945. While repairing vital communications lines, Sergeant Boyett’s crew was ambushed by numerically superior forces. Quickly dashing to a position of cover, he could have escaped, but on hearing the cries of a wounded comrade, the courageous sergeant went to his side and was taken prisoner. When the enemy forced him at gun point to operate his radio he fouled the mechanism. Ordered to enter a captured American tank, he destroyed the gun sights making the tank useless against friendly forces. Learning the enemy intended to withdraw, he feigned injury and as a result, the Germans left him behind. As soon as the enemy retreated he placed wounded comrades in the American tank and evacuated them to an aid station. His bold, aggressive actions and supreme devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military service.
