The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fourth Grade William H. Boyer, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as a Medical Aidman with the 77th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 12 August 1944 during the invasion of Guam. While proceeding in an enemy area for the purpose of administering treatment to injured members of a patrol, his own group was subjected to an explosion from an enemy land mine in which one officer was mortally wounded and an enlisted man was injured. Technician Boyer, in utter disregard of the danger from other enemy land mines and rifle fire, advanced to the wounded, administered plasma to the officer, dressed the wounds of the enlisted man, and under enemy fire, carried the latter to safety on his shoulders. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
