The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Sergeant Floyd M. Boyer (ASN: 39615731), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company L, 3d Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, on February 15, 1944 in Italy. On patrol on the night of 15 February 1944, Sergeant Boyer crawled to the rear of a house containing more than two dozen Germans armed with machine guns and machine pistols. As he approached the rear of the house, he shot and killed three Germans that he found there, and although bullets twice passed through his clothing, he remained in position, cutting them down as the remaining Germans tried to escape. When the last three attempted to escape, he ran after them wounding two and capturing the others. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
