The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Glenn L. Boy (ASN: 39175390), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the Medical Detachment, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Sicily. On ** July 1943, in the vicinity of *****, Sicily, the 1st platoon, Company B, 15th Infantry Regiment, to which Private First Class Boy was attached as an aid man, was advancing down the road against the enemy when the scouts of the platoon drew enemy machine gun fire. On the road 40 yards in advance of the leading elements of the platoon, an enemy vehicle had been destroyed by a mine and the cries of wounded enemy near the wrecked vehicle could be heard. Private First Class Boy with utter disregard for his personal safety, advanced to the four wounded enemy and administered first aid. While aiding these men, enemy machine guns commenced firing directly down the road from a distance of approximately 300 yards, killing a soldier 20 feet to the rear of Private First Class Boy. In spite of the great danger, he continued to apply first aid to the wounded enemy for twenty-five minutes and did not retire to a place of safety until all wounded had been cared for. Private First Class Boy’s devotion to duty on this and other occasions, his disregard for personal needs to administer to the men of his platoon first, were an inspiration to all who witnessed these acts, and reflects the finest traditions of the Medical Corps and the United States Army.
