Headquarters, 34th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 125 (August 12, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Arthur A. Bowen (ASN: 34813625), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company I, 133d Infantry Regiment, 34th Infantry Division, in action on 26 April 1945, in Italy. While Sergeant Bowen’s company was advancing along a highway, they were stopped by a civilian and informed that some Germans were occupying a house five hundred yards away. Sergeant Bowen immediately took a squad of men and started forward to investigate. When they reached a point within two hundred yards of their objective, Sergeant Bowen placed his men in position to cover him and went forward alone. Seeing a quantity of enemy equipment in the courtyard and suspecting the house to be occupied by German soldiers, Sergeant Brown burst into the house and covered its occupants with his Tommy Gun. By his bold maneuver, Sergeant Bowen captured ten Germans. After investigating further, Sergeant Bowen captured another German and a reconnaissance car. Sergeant Bowen’s courage and aggressiveness in taking upon himself the most hazardous part of the mission, enabled his company to take its objective and reflects great credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
