Headquarters, 30th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 143 (June 8, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Harry W. Boures (ASN: 392515372), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 24 March 1945, in Germany. As Private Bures’ company moved toward an important road junction, the leading platoon was suddenly fired on by the enemy, who had established a roadblock at the junction. The platoon immediately took cover until the strength of the enemy defense could be determined. Private Boures, armed with an automatic rifle, and despite having no knowledge of the enemy strength, laid heavy fire on the position and moved rapidly toward the enemy. So bold and aggressive was his assault that the four enemy soldiers manning the position quickly surrendered to him. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Private Boures, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
