The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Joseph A. Bosco (ASN: 13176404), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 119th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 11 July 1944, in France. Private First Class Bosco was serving as a rifleman with an infantry organization and along with four of his comrades was given the mission of knocking out an enemy machine gun emplacement, the exact location of which was not known. While advancing, they were fired upon from the hidden enemy position. When his comrades sought cover, Private First Class Bosco voluntarily moved forward alone, took a bazooka and fired at the installation. Although the shell did not explode, it caused the enemy to abandon the gun position and flee. The initiative, personal bravery, and determined spirit exhibited by Private First Class Bosco were contributing factors in the accomplishment of his organization’s mission. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Private First Class Bosco, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
