The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) James R. Boozer, Jr. (ASN: 0-1303597), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 27 March 1945, in Germany. First Lieutenant Boozer led a detail of ten men in laying wire to a froward command post. The ground to cover was mined and the roads were subjected to severe artillery fire. First Lieutenant Boozer led the detail safely through the minefield and upon arrival came under a hail of artillery fire. Several times he exposed himself from h is crouched position in a ditch to see if the way was cleared. Finally on a fourth attempt he urged his men on and led them the remaining distance to the command post. Despite the presence of mines, the uncertainty as to the location of the enemy, and the intense fire, the mortar and artillery concentrations over a mined area, First Lieutenant Boozer led his detail all the way, and inspired them to continue forward. The bravery, aggressive determination, and exemplary leadership exhibited by First Lieutenant Boozer reflect great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Armed Forces.
