The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Thomas C. Booker, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 1st Armored Division during the invasion of Normandy, France, in 1944. While under heavy enemy fire and close cannon and machine gun fire, Corporal Booker fired his vehicular 50 caliber machine gun until it was empty. Then, although his vehicle was being hit repeatedly, he completely disregarded his own welfare by dismounting and firing a twin 50-caliber anti-aircraft machine gun which was mounted on the bumper of the vehicle. Although fragments from enemy machine gun bullets pierced his gloves and jacket, he continued firing until these guns became inoperative. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
