The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Pasquale Bonnanzio (ASN: 12126234), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 119th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division on 11 July 1944, in France. Private Bonnanzio was assigned to duty with an infantry organization, and was serving in the capacity of ammunition bearer for an anti-tank gun. The organization was surprised with a strong enemy counterattack, spearheaded with several tanks. With complete disregard for his personal safety, Private Bonnanzio immediately left the shelter of his foxhole and carried ammunition until there was a sufficient amount beside the anti-tank gun. Then he voluntarily took a bazooka and advanced toward the tanks in order to deliver effective fire on the hostile machines. As a result of this action, the counterattack was broken up, and Private Bonnanzio was responsible for the destruction of an enemy tank. The personal courage, and aggressive initiative displayed by Private Bonnanzio reflect great credit on himself and the Armed Forces.
