The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fifth Grade Edward J. Boffi (ASN: 31291601), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the Medical Detachment, 6th Armored Division, in action in France during the period 1 August 1944 to 2 August 1944. In *****, France, on 1 August 1944, he displayed gallant heroism when he pulled a driver from his truck after he had been blinded by a five hundred pound bomb. Still under fire, he led the men to a place of comparative safety and administered first aid. Again on 2 August 1944, in *****, France, without regard for his own safety he administered first aid to a seriously wounded man while under a heavy aircraft attack. His gallant and heroic actions are in keeping with the highest traditions of the Medical Department of the United States Army.
