The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Thomas B. Berry (ASN: 32002457), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company C, 114th Infantry Regiment, 44th Infantry Division, in action on 7 December 1944 in the vicinity of Enchenberg, France. When a Tiger Tank threatened to cut off his company, Sergeant Berry moved forward to a point within 50 yards of the tank in order to lay a chain of mines that checked its advance. During this action, he was constantly subjected to direct fire from the tank itself as well as machine gun and sniper fire. Sergeant Berry’s outstanding courage is worthy of high praise.
