Headquarters, 30th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 127 (December 18, 1944)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fifth Grade Adam J. Belowski, Jr. (ASN: 31177810), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 29 August 1944, in France. When his platoon was in dire need of ammunition, Technician Fifth Grade Belowski joined a carrying party which had to cross terrain covered by intense enemy fire to obtained the necessary supplies. While on this mission, Technician Fifth Grade Belowski noticed two severely wounded men from another company lying helpless on the battlefield where enemy machine gun, mortar, and artillery fire was falling. After securing the help of litter bearers, Technician Fifth Grade Belowski returned to the hazardous area. Even when some of the men sought cover from the enemy fire, Technician Fifth Grade Belowski continued on. Observing an enemy machine gun, he killed one of the enemy with a well placed shot from his rifle. Inspired by his courage, the other litter bearers who had remained behind came forward and assisted in removing the wounded men. As a direct result of Technician Fifth Grade Belowski’s courage and unselfish devotion to duty, two men were saved from death. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Technician Fifth Grade Belowski, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
