Headquarters, 30th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 30 (August 3, 1944)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Captain (Infantry) Ernest Wilmer Bell (ASN: 0-462628), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 15 June 1944, in France. In the assault on an enemy-held town, Captain Bell directed the supporting heavy weapons of the assault company, materially assisting the company commander. As the attack progressed, Captain Bell voluntarily and personally led an attacked platoon of tanks assisting the assault unit, with complete disregard for his personal safety. The courage and aggressiveness displayed by Captain Bell reflect great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Armed Forces.
