The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Leo M. Beaulieu (ASN: 31045031), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 117th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 8 October 1944, in Germany. Staff Sergeant Beaulieu was serving as a squad leader with an Infantry Battalion engaged in a determined offensive against the enemy. In a vigorous fire fight, Staff Sergeant Beaulieu and his squad were threatened with isolation as a result of vigorous hostile action. When it became imperative that his squad withdraw, Staff Sergeant Beaulieu discovered that two of his comrades were seriously wounded and could not be evacuated. Without hesitation he elected to remain with the wounded, although it meant death or capture. The unselfish loyalty to his fellow soldiers demonstrated by Staff Sergeant Beaulieu in this courageous act is in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
