The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant LeRoy F. Beau, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 104th Infantry Division from 21 to 21 November 1944. When a fellow soldier was seriously wounded by shrapnel during an intense enemy artillery barrage, Sergeant Beau left his foxhole and at great risk to his life, crossed open fire-swept terrain under the continuing and heavy artillery fire, and reached the side of the seriously wounded man. Lifting his comrade to his shoulders, he carried him 25 yards to the nearest building, where he administered first aid before returning to his position. By his courage and intense devotion to his fellow soldiers, Sergeant Beau saved the life of his seriously wounded comrade, and his actions above and beyond the call of duty reflects the highest credit upon himself and the military service.
