The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Infantry) Felder L. Fair (ASN: 0-358749), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as Commanding Officer of Company K, 3d Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in the vicinity of Jungersdorf, Germany, on 27 – 28 November 1944. When his company was subjected to an intense mortar, cannon, and machine gun barrage from a numerically superior enemy force, Captain Fair, with utter disregard for personal safety, courageously moved about perilous terrain and skillfully led his men to more advantageous positions. Then, although painfully wounded, he fearlessly directed accurate fire upon the foe, inflicted severe casualties and compelled the hostile units to withdraw. Captain Fair’s gallant actions and outstanding leadership were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
