By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), First Lieutenant (Medical Corps) Elmore C. Dovell, United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, American Expeditionary Forces, for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. First Lieutenant Dovell distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Medical Detachment, 371st Infantry Regiment, 93d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, 29 – 30 September 1918. After being wounded, First Lieutenant Dovell remained on duty. [This award was rescinded under GHQ, American Expeditionary Forces, Citation Orders No. 8 (March 1, 1920) as the recipient has been awarded a Distinguished Service Cross for deed including this act.]
