Headquarters, 79th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 184 (August 15, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Angelo R. Baraconi (ASN: 36666378), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 313th Infantry Regiment, 79th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 19 January 1945, in France. When his squad was attacked by two enemy vehicles, Sergeant Baraconi opened fire with a light machine gun, disabling and setting one of the vehicles afire. Then, despite automatic, small arms, and twenty millimeter fire from the remaining half-track vehicle, he succeeded in immobilizing it and forced its abandonment by the enemy with effective fire. Knowing that prisoners were needed by S-2 for intelligence operations, he withheld further fire and at great personal risk, maneuvered to surprise and capture six of the enemy. The courageous initiative and devotion to duty exhibited by Sergeant Baraconi reflect great credit on himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
