Headquarters, 30th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 155 (June 13, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Medical Corps) Donald B. Bannerman (ASN: 0-488279), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the Medical Detachment, 119th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 25 July 1944, in France. Captain Bannerman distinguished himself when heavy enemy small arms, mortar, and artillery fire began falling in and around the aid station where he was on duty. Under the increasing fire, he left the safety of his foxhole and ministered to the wounded around him. Personally administering first aid to twenty-five, he evacuated twelve unaided, and organized and led litter squads to evacuate the other casualties. By his unselfish heroism, he saved the lives of many of his comrades. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Captain Bannerman, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
