The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technical Sergeant Donald D. Babcock (ASN: 6932229), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 23 March 1945, in Germany. Although he was struck in the body by a flying shell fragment, Technical Sergeant Babcock organized a group of men who had left their vehicles and, despite enemy artillery fire still falling, walked among the vehicles getting them in line for movement. He then courageously led the company out of the danger area without further casualty or loss of equipment. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Technical Sergeant Babcock, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
