(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Private First Class George M. Avett, United States Army, was awarded the Silver Star for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving with the 5th Armored Division in Germany during World War II. He and three comrades on advance patrol, were crawling across a canal bridge when it was blown up. Despite the detonation and the damage they continued to the other side, secured a position and were credited with establishing a successful foothold. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
