The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Corporal Louis C. Dolce (ASN: 198798), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company C, 2d Field Signal Battalion, 1st Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Exermont, France, 8 October 1918. Corporal Dolce volunteered and laid a telephone line to an advanced observation post under heavy artillery and machine-gun fire, working his way the entire distance of more than one kilometer through dense undergrowth and barbed-wire entanglements.
