The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Roland Patrick Aucoin (ASN: 38171399), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the Anti-Tank Company, 117th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 8 August 1944, in France. Private First Class Aucoin was serving as a Radio Operator with the Anti-Tank Company of his Regiment which was engaged in action with the enemy. A vigorous counterattack launched by a desperate foe made a partial withdrawal of part of our forces expedient. With complete disregard for his personal safety, Private First Class Aucoin voluntarily elected to remain at the original position in order to maintain lateral and local communications intact. As a result of this conspicuous devotion to duty, Private First Class Aucoin lost his life, but in so doing he made an invaluable contribution to the success of an important military operation. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Private First Class Aucoin, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
