The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Corporal James Dolan (ASN: 1709086), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company G, 308th Infantry Regiment, 77th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Charlevaux, France, October 3 – 7, 1918. Corporal Dolan was very severely wounded while in charge of his automatic rifle section, which was a unit of a surrounded battalion. After receiving first aid he resumed his post and remained in command of his section until the battalion was relieved.
